Crook County Jail Release Paths
Crook County Jail is a county jail, not a state prison. Its population includes people awaiting court action, people serving a local supervisory-authority sentence, and people held for parole or probation sanctions. A departure means Crook County’s physical custody ended. The legal and practical result depends on which group the person was in and whether another agency took custody.
A pretrial detainee may return to the community under a court order or conditions while the case remains open. Someone serving a local term may leave after the authorized jail time ends. A person held on a supervision sanction may return to parole, probation, or post-prison supervision. A transfer to ODOC, another county, the U.S. Marshals Service, BOP, or ICE is a release from the Crook building, but it is not a community release.

Search Crook County Jail Releases

The Viewer warning says information changes quickly and must be verified. It also says configured results may include descriptive data, a mugshot, and original charges. Those details are conditional. The Viewer does not publish an exact update interval or a fixed online retention period.
Not appearing on the current roster does not prove community release. The person may have transferred, or the search may be incomplete or delayed.
Confirm Crook Jail Release Records
The formal route is an Adult Jail Request through Crook County Sheriff Records. Identify one person and one booking when possible. Ask for the booking number, admission timestamp, actual release timestamp, recorded release status or type, any code legend, and the destination or receiving agency if custody transferred. Add the related case or agency identifier when it will help distinguish records.
Requests may be written, made in person at 308 NE 2nd Street in Prineville, or faxed to 541-416-0353. The Sheriff form includes Adult Jail Request and delivery by email, mail, or pickup. It warns that fees may apply and that the record is provided after required payment. Ask for an estimate because the public fee lists do not expressly state one price for a booking-and-release record.

Oregon public-record law allows inspection of nonexempt material, but exemptions and special rules can require withholding or redaction. Ask for segregable portions if only part of the Crook County Jail release record is protected.

Crook Jail Transfers After Release
A transfer code changes the search path. The Crook County Jail record can establish that the local booking ended and may name the destination. It cannot establish a later release from the receiving agency. Follow ODOC for state custody, another sheriff for another county jail, BOP for a sentenced federal prisoner, ICE ODLS for qualifying immigration custody, or the federal court and U.S. Marshals Service for a federal pretrial matter.
Oregon Offender Search is useful only when a person is now in ODOC custody or under a local Community Corrections office. It is not an archive of every person once held at Crook County Jail. Search by first, middle, and last name or SID, using an asterisk only in a name field. If the person has fully discharged, seek the former-offender record through ODOC GovQA.
Federal wording also needs care. “Released” or “Not in BOP Custody” means BOP custody has ended, but another agency or supervision may still apply. A court date and jail release date can both be right. A judge may order release before processing ends, a later booking may follow, or an amended judgment may change the legal record. Ask each custodian what its date represents rather than changing one to match the other.
Crook Jail Opened in 2019
The current 86-bed Crook County Jail opened on August 5, 2019. Capacity is a design fact, not a live population or release count. Approved minutes report 1,088 bookings during 2025, while the adopted county budget reports a 2023 average daily population of 40 and 82 lodgings for other jurisdictions. Those are different measures and should not be converted into releases.
The local population mix explains why one “release” label cannot fit all departures. Pretrial detainees, locally sentenced people, supervision sanctions, and other-jurisdiction lodgings can move through the same building under different authority.
After Crook Jail Release
Crook Community Corrections serves people actually assigned to qualifying supervision in Crook County. A person released after a parole or probation sanction may report back to that office. Someone on a pretrial release, a completed local misdemeanor term, or a transfer may have no connection to the office. The jail names BestCare Treatment, Choices Recovery Services, and Turning Point Recovery as recovery-service partners, but no source promises a specific post-release referral or placement.
Cascades East Transit serves Prineville, yet the Sheriff publishes no transport arrangement or confirmed jail-door stop. Check the current transit map and rider help before relying on a route. Facility staff or the released person must confirm the actual exit and pickup details when that information can be shared.

Correct Crook Jail Release Errors
